Scratch is an application which teaches children how to code using basic shapes, colourful images and animations. Scratch was originally launched in 2007 by Mitchell Resnick and his team at MIT and to this day has over 4.5 million projects on their website.

Scratch is a great tool which uses a drag-and-drop user interface, making it pragmatic in appearance without the typical convolution associated with programming. It is fun and provides opportunities to share, view and incorporate ideas with other internet users. Scratch is available in other digital mediums such as iPads and Android tablets. The use of this application in schools would vastly benefit the multiliteral classroom.
